The Assessor’s Office is responsible for the inventory of all property within the Township, and the valuation of the taxable parcels therein.
The Building Department is responsible for all construction related permits and inspections along with the administration and enforcement of the Township Zoning Code of Ordinances; Planning and Zoning Services.
The Clerk’s office is responsible for keeping voter registration files; conducting elections; maintaining all Township records; recording Township meeting minutes; processing FOIA requests; accounts payable and preparing financial statements.
The Fire Department provides fire, medical and rescue emergency services to our community. They also issue Burn Permits to residents.
Independence Television is a joint service of Clarkston Community Schools and Independence Township providing local community and government television programs to the residents.

The Oakland County Sheriff Sub-Station provides Law Enforcement Services in Independence Township.
Public Works (DPW)
The DPW Department is responsible for maintaining the Township water and sewer services along with overseeing the Lakeview and Sashabaw Plains Cemeteries.
The Township Supervisor serves as the Chief Administrative Officer of the Township.
The Treasurer’s office is responsible for tax statements, tax and utility payments. They also issue dog licenses.
